short descriptionIf you wonder how use Dreamweaver to edit a Blogger template, you're not alone. More and more people want to create a custom look to their blog. Blogger blogs, powered by Google, are available for free at Blogger.com. Although many people consider them to be easier to use than other types of blogging systems on the web, editing those templates can be tricky if you don't have the right tools.

How to Use Dreamweaver to Edit Blogger Templates - Step by Step

To start out, go to your Blogger account and login. Select your blog, and then click on the tab that says "Layout." Under the "Layout" tab, you'll see "Page Elements," "Fonts and Colors," "Edit HTML" and "Pick New Template." Click on "Edit HTML" and you'll see a clickable link that says "Download Full Template." Click that link and save the template to a safe place on your hard drive.

Open Dreamweaver and then open the template file from your hard drive. Make sure that you save your edited copy under a different name. This way, you'll have a clean copy of the template if you make a mistake and want to start over from scratch.
You can change the colors, header and font of your blogger template through Dreamweaver. You can even completely change the layout and make a brand new template. Your options are only limited by your programming skills.
Once you're done editing the template and saving it, you'll need to upload it to Blogger. Navigate back to the "Edit HTML" section and select "Browse." Find the new, edited template on your hard drive and upload it to Blogger.

Where to Find Blogger Templates to Edit

Now that you know how to use Dreamweaver to edit a Blogger template, you will want to find templates to edit. You can use one of the templates that come with your Blogger account in order to create a custom template. There are about a dozen to choose from and many people use these standard templates as the basis for their own creations.

Using the right version of Dreamweaver to Edit Templates

Before you set out to edit your Blogger template in Dreamweaver, you need to be sure that you're using the right version of Dreamweaver. The templates that Blogger uses are XML files. In order to edit the XML files and the cascading style sheets, you'll need a copy of the Adobe Creative Suite 4. CS4 was released in October 2008.Prior to the release of CS4, you had to create a new template in Dreamweaver using HTML. Then you had to manually cut and paste the code into your Blogger template. This was complicated and prohibited many people from trying to edit their own templates. The newest version of Dreamweaver has a Code Navigator function that makes editing your Blogger template easy. This function connects you to the code that is linked to a page. Using this approach, you can now use Dreamweaver to edit whatever code is connected to your template. Since template editing is built right into the newest version of Dreamweaver, you can use it to easily edit your Blogger templates.
CS4 includes the latest copy of Dreamweaver, which has the capabilities of editing templates and cascading style sheets. You can get the latest Dreamweaver version with your purchase of Abode CS4. In addition to Dreamweaver, CS4 comes with Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat, Bridge, Fireworks, Flash, InDesign and additional helpful programs.
