Samsung has done everything to make it the best offering available today. They had equipped the S3 with 1.4 GHz Cortex A9 processor mated to Exynos 4212 Quad Chipset, and has put 1GB RAM under the hood. The display is a 4.8-inch Super AMOLED capacitive touch screen with a resolution of 1280×720, covered by Gorilla glass to provide protection from scratch.
The handset has now become massive; it’s now 136.6mm taller, 70.6mm wider and 8.6mm thick. The phone retains the slimness of the Samsung Galaxy S2, but now it is more powerful and much bigger. Furthermore, the increased in power has also bumped the weight of the phone, it now weighs 133g, but you will hardly notice the extra put on weight while holding it in your hand, and most probably you will get adjusted to it.

Earlier, there were lots of rumors of Samsung getting rid of home button, but the rumor turns out to be wrong. Samsung has retained the home button, also there is Menu and Back icons on either side of the Home button which glow when they are in use, and fade away when the phone is idle.
Talking about the camera, the rear comes packed with 8-megapixel camera with LED flash, while the front panel gets 1.9-megapixel camera with face recognition functionality. The rear camera is capable to record Full HD 1080p video, while using the front camera you can shoot HD 720p videos. Samsung has also incorporated a new feature called Smart Stay, the phone front camera uses face recognition technology to see who’s looking at the phone and ensures that phone’s display don’t get dim when a person is looking at it.
Samsung has packed its latest offering with many modern features. Some of them are listed below.
  • Direct Call function, which allows you to call back someone who sent you a message or text, just by lifting the phone to your ear and the phone will dial back the number automatically. The person needs to be in the contact list.
  • Samsung S voice, which is Samsung’s reply to Apple’s much famous SIRI. Using the S voice function you can perform many functions, including unlocking the screen, waking up the phone, give a command to open up the camera and even take picture and many more.
Samsung has also tweaked the camera application, Now you can take still images even while you are recording video at Full HD resolution. Samsung also confirms that there’s a zero shutter lag, enabling the users to capture every moment without missing any. Another interesting feature incorporated is Burst Shot, which takes 20 photos in quick session and identifies the best shot by comparing all pictures on differed pre-specified parameters.

Content sharing has also been made much easier with the new Galaxy S3, especially if you got to share content with another Galaxy S3. For sharing you can either user NFC connectivity or Wi-Fi direct, in order to offer fastest data-sharing connectivity Samsung has combined the Android Beam and Wi-Fi Direct technology into one called S Beam. The NFC offers maximum data transfer rates up to 400 Mbps, and the Wi-Fi direct option offers the maximum data transfer rates up to 300 Mbps.
The Galaxy S3 will come with LTE 4G capabilities for US, but Indians will be treated with the International version which comes with HSPA+ connectivity. Furthermore, another interesting feature to note is battery, Samsung has packed the phone with 2100mAh battery; however, battery life of the phone is yet to be confirmed in general use.

On the launch of the phone, it will come pre-installed with lots of applications. It will get the usual Samsung hubs; Flipboard and Dropbox cloud storage. Samsung is offering 50GB of free storage space in Dropbox for first few buyers. Samsung has also taken decision to go along with micro SIM for its flagship phone; this news might turn off many buyers as getting a micro-SIM creates a lot of hassles, especially in India.
Another interesting point is to note that, Samsung has gone the Apple way and will offer the S3 in a wide range of storage options- 16GB, 32GB and 64GB; along with a microSD card slot which supports up to 32GB memory card.
The new Samsung Galaxy S3 will be offered in two colors- Pebble Blue and Marble White. The phone is expected to be launched in India on first week of June, and according to sources, it will carry a MRP price tag of Rs. 38,000 and might sell for approx Rs. 33,500 in the street.
